The Dodge Charger is a classic example of an American muscle car, but its beautiful style and comfortable ride make it perfect for just about every Missouri road. This car is known for its power, and the 2012 Charger meets all expectations in that department. The sedan's interior is not as well known as its muscle, but it is just as impressive. There is plenty of legroom in the spacious passenger cabin, and the trunk space is generous as well. High-quality materials, easy-to-read touchscreen and driver-friendly controls paired with the Charger's smooth handling make it one of the best full-size sedans on the market.
The 2012 Charger is available in SE, SXT, R/T and SRT8 trims with a number of package options for the upper trim levels. All models have standard rear-wheel drive; all-wheel drive is available on SXT and R/T models.
A 3.6-liter V6 engine powers the Charger SE. The V6 creates 292 horsepower and 260 pounds per feet of torque. With standard five-speed automatic transmission, the EPA fuel economy estimates are 18 miles per gallon in St. Louis city conditions, 27 miles per gallon on the highway and 21 miles per gallon overall. Buyers can opt for an eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the standard five-speed.
Inside the SE, a six-way adjustable power driver seat, dual-zone air-conditioning and tilt/telescoping steering wheel with mounted audio controls ensure the driver's comfort. Keyless entry, automatic halogen headlamps, power mirrors, acoustic windshield, acoustic front door glass and cruise control are all standard. The basic sound system includes six speakers, an iPod/USB interface and auxiliary jack for external audio players. 17-inch alloy wheels are standard.
The SXT has the same V6 engine as the SE model and comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is an available alternative to the standard rear-wheel drive. In addition to the features of the SE, the SXT comes with an upgraded sound system and touchscreen interface, auto-dimming rearview mirror with microphone, power heated mirrors, heated front seats and fog lamps. The upgraded driver's seat is eight-way with four-way lumbar support keeping drivers comfortable from Springfield to St. Clair and beyond. 19-inch wheels are standard on the all-wheel drive SXT.
The Charger R/T is pure power. Its 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine generates an impressive 370 horsepower and 395 pounds-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard along with an automatic transmission. The R/T can also be equipped with all-wheel drive for greater traction on Missouri's slick wintry roads. With rear-wheel drive, the EPA fuel estimates are 19 miles per gallon combined, 16 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. All-wheel drive fuel estimates are 18 mpg combined, 15 mpg for the city and 23 mpg on the highway. A performance-tuned suspension, high-intensity discharge headlamps and sports seats up front are standard on the R/T. 18-inch wheels, upgraded brakes and performance tires are also standard equipment. The R/T Plus has all of the features of the R/T and adds sporty leather-trimmed heated seats in the front and rear, 4-way lumbar adjustment on 8-way power driver and passenger seats, rear spoiler and a sunroof option.
The SRT8 boasts a powerhouse under the hood. Its 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine generates 470 horsepower and 470 pounds-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive and a five-speed automatic transmission are standard. Dodge lists the top speed at 175 miles per hour, and the SRT8 goes from zero to 60 mph in well under five seconds. Shift paddles, power-adjustable pedals and upgraded brakes add to the SRT8's superpower vibe. The high-performance suspension features independent front and rear systems with stabilizer bars. The suspension has two adaptive modes. Other SRT8 highlights include a back-up camera, heated and ventilated seats, upgraded sound system, rear spoiler and 20-inch wheels. A navigation system makes it easy to find any St. Louis or St. Charles destination. The SRT8 Superbee economizes with fewer luxury features, but it maintains the SRT8's power.
All 2012 Charger models include antilock brakes, active head restraints, stability control and traction control. Standard airbags include side curtain airbags, front side airbags and a driver's knee airbag.
